Drilling water wells, geothermal loops , foundation piers, soil core testing has to be one of the best businesses to get started in. This is somethiong that will always be indemand.People have to have air to breath, food to eat and water to drink regardless of the economy, age, race or religion. More people are being born, more people are moving away from big cities to areas with no water. The worse things get , the more people who move away from crowded areas( large cities).
With the average price of a water well costing 8000.00 for shallow 140ft or less wells to 18,000.00 (200ft) with the only guarantee you have is, the drilling company will cash your check before the sun goes down. Drilling companies are not required by law to hit water while drilling.
Some agencies at water meetings across the USA inform drillers to charge money per well, to help drive more people to city and municapal water supplies.
Many people are buying there own rig and drilling there own wells. If you already have your own drilling equipment it only cost 180.00 ( materails) to drill and set casing for a 200 ft 4 inch well. For the rest of the equipment ,like pump,tank,pressure switch and wire that is another 550.00 depending on size pump hp.
So if you hit a dry hole your only out 180.00 and 4 hours labor, verses 8000.00 plus by a drilling company.
There are many investments these days, but its hard to find a machine you can use for a few short weeks and pay for it clear and free, not years.
The R-77 Magnum can drill 200 ft in 2 hours in soft formations with the larger mud pump upgrade .Drilling times vary when formations have Hard Rock. If you have very hard rock we suggest you use a DTH hammer, this is the fast way in the world to drill hard Rock. Our R-77 magnum is already set up to use a DTH hammer. Roller cone rock bits are cheaper over head, but are slower.
The hydraulic drive motor on it will drill with bits sizes to 8 inches. There are other ways to use the rig also. Geothermal is growing fast. With electric bills going up many people are going geothermal. The average home will need 2 geothermal holes per ton of A/C. So a home with a geothermal unit of 4 tons will need 8 geothermal holes drilled @ 1800.00 per hole x 8 = 14,400.00 in 3 to 5 days work. Geothermal holes are small, and drill faster than a water well. With the new energy laws in effect it is now mandatory for many goverment & Schools to install this. With water wells costing 8000.00 to 15,000.00 per well and the ability to drill a 300 ft well in 3.5 to 7.5 hours in soft formations, how long would it take to get a return on your money.

The Drilling business and very good, because even if things slow down, you still need a drink. Just do a test, call a few drillers out of the local phone book. You will find out, it may be 2 to 3 days before they even return your call, then you will find out that they quote you a high price twice as high as your wildest guess and don't care if you like it.
Then ,even if you have cash in hand waiting for them, ask them how fast they can get there to start, if they can start before 4 to 5 weeks ,i will be surprized. Also with geothermal ac / heat taking off and enviromental soil testing theres a big market there also. With city water prices going higher and water quality getting poor, people desire there own safe water well.
Land developing And getting your return back fast.
When you can buy cheap country or remote land and add a water well, you just changed some cheap remote land to a desirable get away retreat someone would be glad to pay top dollar for.The thing that makes land cheap is no water. Adding a water well to any lot or acre easily adds 10,000 to 18,000 to the value. If you have your own drilling rig you can drill and set casing & screen on a 200ft well for about 185.00, plus another 550.00 for a new pump,tank and pressure switch depending on size hp pump. Still much cheaper than 8 to 15 thousand dollars drillers are charging.
Rental income
The going rate for drilling rig machine rental is 650.00 per day and up . Renting the drilling rig to land owners & ranchers works well for people who want a quick return on there money.
There is one thing for sure, all prices in our country are set by supply and demand. With water well prices up 300% higher than 7 years ago, that's a sure sign there are less drillers than the demand is.
